Guest Cottage on its stone foundation, cedar-clad walls, slatted pergola, with dramatic clouds and fynbos slope

Guest Cottage

A cottage on the slope, with a deck and a view.

Cottage

The Guest Cottage on its own stone foundation among the olive grove. Iroko-clad walls, floor-to-ceiling glass, a slatted timber pergola over a wraparound deck. Inside: a kitchen, a woven-pattern tile backsplash; a linen-and-kilim living area; a wood-fired stove and a single bedroom that opens onto the deck. Outside: the same mountain that the Main House looks at, and the same fynbos slope. Bookable year-round — including when the owners are in residence at the Main House.

Set into the slope

Guest Cottage from the side, with olive tree in foreground, fynbos slope, dramatic sky

Like the Main House, the cottage is built into the slope rather than onto it. Stone foundation below, Iroko slat walls above, a wraparound deck on stilts. Olive trees around it.

The kitchen

Cottage kitchen interior: black cabinetry, woven-pattern tile backsplash, flowers on the counter

Black cabinetry, dark counters, a backsplash of woven-pattern tile. A small high window pulls the mountain into the room. The kitchen handles the everyday — toast, coffee, a bottle of wine — without competing with the Main House's full setup.

The room

Guest Cottage living area with linen sofa, kilim rug, slatted wall, slate floor

A linen sofa, a kilim rug over cowhide, a patterned drum-stool table, a wood-fired stove, a slatted-wood feature wall. Slate floor, exposed beam ceiling, the same dark cabinetry continuing from the kitchen. Quiet and intentional. The light moves through it differently as the day passes.

The deck, and the view

Cottage deck at golden hour, pergola overhead, sun-flare, fynbos and mountain visible

The deck wraps the cottage on two sides. Slatted pergola overhead, olives and fruit trees below, the mountain ridge directly across. Golden hour is the moment most guests stop whatever they are doing and sit on the deck. A glass of wine from the neighbouring vineyard helps.

The grounds

Shared grounds with the Main House: the fynbos paths and the gazebo at the summit. The cottage has its own approach path and its own deck — close enough to the Main House to feel part of the estate, far enough to feel private.
